PI - Corey R. Hopkins, Ph.D.
Professor Director, UNMC Center for Drug Design and Innovation Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences College of Pharmacy University of Nebraska Medical Center [email protected] Dr. Hopkins' CV Corey received his B.S. in Chemistry from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN and the after several years working in industry, he received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh working under the direction of Prof. Peter Wipf. During his doctoral training, Corey worked on the total synthesis of complex natural products as well as methodology development. After completing his Ph.D., he went to work for Aventis Pharmaceuticals, P&G Pharmaceuticals and Sanofi Pharmaceuticals where he worked as a medicinal chemist/team leader on a number of CNS-related therapeutic targets (multiple sclerosis, depression) and inflammation-related targets (asthma, rheumatoid arthritis). Prior to UNMC, Corey was an Assistant Research Professor at Vanderbilt University in the Departments of Pharmacology and Chemistry. In addition, he was an Associate Director of Medicinal Chemistry for Vanderbilt's Center for Neuroscience Drug Discovery. At Vanderbilt, Corey was the chemistry team leader for the mGlu4 PAM program for Parkinson's disease, and was the PI on a number of chemical optimization programs including two RO1 funded projects. In 2016, Corey moved to UNMC as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Students and postdocs in his laboratory will have the opportunity to learn modern medicinal chemistry techniques (SAR, DMPK) in a highly collaborative environment. |
